The State Society for the Implementation of Rehabilitation for the Persons with Disabilities (SSIPRD), State Resource Centre on Disability Affairs (SRCDA) started functioning in the State of Meghalaya during the year 2000-2001 for the implementation of NPRPD (National Programme for the Implementation of Rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities), which was funded by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. Up to 2005 the Disability Welfare Programme continued by the grant received by the Government of India, after that, it was continued till today funding by the State Government through the Social Welfare Department. Meghalaya is the only State in India that, the Project of NPRPD is still going on under the State Plan.

The network developed by SRCDA with District Social Welfare Officers, MRWs, CBRWs and other agencies is a unique modeland with the help of this model all the rehabilitation activities are catered to the persons with disabilities of the State. The SRCDA is not only involved in Rehabilitation Welfare Programmes, but also Manpower Training, Public Awareness, Prevention and Early Intervention of Disability, Training of Medical Faculty regarding the issuance of Disability Certificates, but also caters the Man Power Training of CBR workers of North Eastern Region and also for West Bengal.
